“While claiming to hold a peaceful protest, the demonstrators engaged in violent activities, creating chaos, resulting in the death of a young man and a labor journalist, and damaging media houses, political party offices, private homes, commercial buildings, and vehicles. EMSON strongly demands the immediate arrest of those involved in the vandalism, arson, and looting, and their prosecution under the law," the statement read.
In addition to journalist Rajak, a pro-monarch protester Sabin Maharjan, 29, of Kirtipur Municipality, succumbed to injuries sustained during the protest, while undergoing treatment at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
“The protesters also vandalized the offices of Kantipur Television and Annapurna Post. In addition, they set fire to a political party office and caused destruction and looted the Bhat-Bhateni supermarket. EMSON condemns such violence and disorder under the guise of peaceful protest,” EMSON stated.
EMSON emphasized that while democracy allows for peaceful expression of dissent, it categorically rejects violence aimed at achieving political goals, endangering citizens' lives, and engaging in destruction and looting of private property and businesses.
