Maoist closed session adjourned till 5 PM

KATHMANDU, Jan 1: The closed session under the Eighth National General Convention of the CPN (Maoist Center) has been adjourned till 5PM today.


As the political report submitted by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and the draft statute submitted by Standing Committee member Dev Prasad Gurung have been passed, the closed session has been paused to decide on the central committee.

Chairperson of the Karnali Province Committee Bimala KC said that the closed session has been postponed till 5 PM to seek consensus. A Standing Committee meeting is being held at Pragya Bhawan, the convention venue, to decide on the central committee according to the clusters. The Maoists are preparing to decide on the Central Committee from the General Convention today.


As per the statute, the party's central committee will now be elected through a mixed electoral system with 50 percent open and 50 percent fully proportional representation. The Central Committee will have 299 members. Earlier, the Central Committee had said that it would nominate 10 percent but it has been increased to 15 percent.


The General Convention will elect the Central Committee, the Politburo, the Standing Committee and the office-bearers on the basis of inclusive principle. A cluster of Dalit, Muslim, Tharu, Madhesi, indigenous, Khas Arya, disabled, marginalized classes, women and youth has been formed in full proportion of 50 percent. The Central Committee will have 35 percent women and 20 percent youth under 40 years of age from all clusters.
