KATHMANDU, Jan 11: The National Examinations Board (NEB) has suggested that the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) should not be abolished.
In Thursday's Education, Health and Information Technology Committee meeting, NEB Chairman Dr Mahashram Sharma expressed his opinion on the School Education Bill, suggesting that SEE should not be scrapped.

“SEE should be conducted. However, we believe that it should be conducted at the provincial-level rather than at the federal-level," said Chairman Sharma.
The bill mentions that the SEE will be held in classes 8 and 12. He argues that this provision will further discourage students. “At present, students take exams at grades 8, 10 and 12. If one takes the exams directly in grade 8 and again in grade 12, there will be a gap of 4 years in between,” said Sharma.
"Our concern is that a four-year gap may negatively impact the student's learning and evaluation," he added.
Currently, grade 11 exams are conducted by the respective schools, with a 100 percent pass rate. However, only 50 percent of students pass the grade 12 board exams.
Chairman Sharma argued that removing the class 10 board exam could further increase the failure rate.
