According to Mohan Pokharel, Information Officer at the District Police Office, the letter claimed they were born deaf and mute and requested financial assistance for Dipendra Kumar Sharma and Santosh Kumar Sharma. However, authorities discovered they could hear and speak normally.
“There are only nine wards in Shahid Lakhan Rural Municipality, but the letter mentions ward 11, which does not exist,” Pokharel said.
The recommendation, dated November 25, bore the signature of the ward chairman, but no name was provided. Police recovered fake documents, patient photos, and Rs 17,760 in cash from the suspects. The pair reportedly collected up to Rs 1,000 from individuals.
Khotang District Court has extended their remand by three days under the Illegal Donations Act. Deputy Superintendent of Police Prateek Bista said that further investigation is underway for forgery charges.
