NAWALPUR, Sept 27: In view of the swollen Narayani River, local authorities here have restricted the movement of heavy vehicles on the bridge.
Police informed that the bridge over the Narayani River was allowed only for motorcycles, considering the security concern. The bridge connects Chitwan and Nawalparasi along the East-West Highway.
Signature bridge to be built over Narayani River
Information officer at the District Police Office in Nawalparasi, Anil Pande, said the bridge was an aging infrastructure and it began shaking, so heavy vehicles were prohibited for a while today.
In a bid to reduce the risk, even the pedestrians, making videos and photos over the bridge, were asked not to throng there. With the restriction on movement, the vehicles are kept on hold at both sides of the bridge, Gaidakot and Narayangadh.
The water level in the Narayani River was recorded reaching a height of 11.91 metres at 1:50pm. It was measured from Devghat.
The flooded Narayani River has inundated the settlements on the riverbank- Gaidakot, Kawasoti, Madhyabindu Municipality and Binayi Triveni.
