Marsyangdi bus accident: Nepal Army chopper leaves for accident site with medical team

KATHMANDU, Aug 23: A Nepal Army helicopter (MI 17) has left for the accident site at Anbu Khaireni in Tanahun district with a medical team for rescue operation.


At least 29 passengers have been rescued following an accident involving an Indian-registered bus which plunged into the Masayndhi River near Anbu Khaireni in Tanahun district this morning. At least 14 of them have been confirmed dead.

According to the Gandaki Province Police Office, Pokhara, 15 people are able to speak.


Police initially estimated that around 40 passengers were on board the bus. Rabindra Regmi, spokesperson and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Province Police Office, said a search operation for the remaining passengers is still ongoing.


The rescued passengers are being sent to hospitals for treatment.At least 16 injured have been sent to a local hospital for treatment.


The identity of those who were rescued from the accident site and the other passengers on board is yet to be disclosed.
