Lawmaker proposes reducing tenure of chief secretary to 2 years

KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Member of Parliament (MP) Jiwan Pariyar of the Nepali Congress has proposed to reduce the tenure of the chief secretary and secretaries.


During a discussion on the Federal Civil Service Bill at the meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives on Wednesday, MP Pariyar suggested including a provision for this change in the bill.

He stated, "Let's make the tenure of the chief secretary two years and that of secretaries three years." He emphasized the importance of focusing on future legislation, without considering how it may affect those currently in positions of responsibility.


He suggested that organizing secretary transfers and setting their tenure to three years would enable them to work more effectively.


The tenure of the secretary at present is five years.
