KATHMANDU, Aug 22: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has sought clarification from 92 private schools that have not started operations despite obtaining licenses.
The KMC Education Department has issued a 35-day notice, asking the schools to submit the necessary documents within the stipulated period. The notice applies to institutional schools that obtained permission or approval to operate within the metropolitan area under prevailing laws but are now in a situation where their permission or approval may need to be revoked.

Nawaraj Dhakal, chief of the KMC Education Department, said the Education Act 2018 requires the authorities to publish a notice when a school’s permission or approval is to be revoked.
He said the KMC will take necessary steps to revoke the schools’ permission or approval if they fail to provide a satisfactory response within the given period.
Earlier, the metropolis had decided to initiate the process of revoking the licenses of registered institutional schools that are not operating by conducting on-site monitoring.
