KATHMANDU, Sept 19: Former Prime Ministers KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal have called for unity among democratic and pro-Constitution forces to protect the Constitution and safeguard the rights achieved through it.
In separate messages issued on Constitution Day, CPN-UML Chair Oli said forces supporting the Constitution should stand together to strengthen national unity. Recalling the difficult circumstances the country faced, including the blockade following the promulgation of the Constitution, he said such challenges had reinforced the need to protect the Constitution and national unity.

Oli also claimed that a government led by his party had taken the Constitution into the implementation phase through legislation and structural development within a short period.
Nepal Communist Party Coordinator Dahal said the main responsibility now is to connect the achievements of the Constitution with people’s daily lives and complete the remaining tasks. He said a united effort is necessary to realize the changes envisioned by the Constitution.
Dahal also said efforts to roll back the Constitution, the federal democratic republican system and rights secured by the people are unacceptable, and called on democratic forces to unite against activities that undermine constitutional values and people’s rights.
He stressed the need to link political change with socioeconomic transformation by ensuring access to education, healthcare, employment, production and equal opportunities for all citizens.
