RAUTAHAT, Sept 20: Siraha police have arrested the main suspect in the killing of Armed Police Force Assistant Sub-Inspector Laxman Prasad Yadav after shooting and wounding him near the Nepal–India border.
A special team from the District Police Office, Siraha, detained Mohammad Kurwan Mansuri, who had been sought in connection with the killing and an organised crime investigation.

At around 3 am on Magh 16, 2081 BS, smugglers allegedly ran over Yadav with a vehicle loaded with alcohol near Kachanari in Bariyarpatti Rural Municipality-1. Yadav and his team had tried to stop the India-registered Tata Safari, bearing the number DL 5 CJ 7171, as it headed towards India, police said. Yadav was seriously injured and later died during treatment.
Police identified Mansuri as the vehicle’s owner and driver and investigated the incident as a deliberate attack. He had been on the run since then.
According to the District Police Office, officers spotted Mansuri near Kachanari with two other people. Police fired one round when he tried to flee, then fired three more rounds after the group resisted, the office said.
Mansuri, 37, was shot in his left elbow and right knee. He is receiving treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Siraha under police guard.
Police said they would continue investigating Mansuri on charges related to homicide, causing death with a vehicle and organised crime.
