Journos urge Maoists to punish Himalmedia attackers

By
KATHMANDU: Amidst widespread criticism of the Maoist attack on Himalmedia, publishers and journalists have demanded the Maoist-led government bring those identified culprits to justice and ensure a secure environment to media.

Their demand has come at a time when Ramesh Babu Panta and Ramesh KC, two identified culprits behind the Himalmedia attack, continue to roam freely even after two days since the incident happened. According to Himalmedia, Panta and KC were among those involved in the attack in which six journalists and staff were beaten up and injured.

“No action has been taken yet though the culprits in the Himalmedia attack were identified. Why is the state promoting impunity?” asked Dharmendra Jha, president of Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), the umbrella forum of journalists in Nepal.

Jha also questioned Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s Monday’s commitment to punish the culprits involved in Himalmedia incident. We were given promises even in the past but implementation was poor. And the unfolding attacks on media were not unexpected.”
