KATHMANDU, November 14:  St Xavier’s College has launched the second edition of its International Conference (ICSXC-2024) in Kathmandu. The conference, themed “Advancing Ethical Knowledge and Wisdom: Interdisciplinary Practices and Research,” aims to foster global collaboration and spark meaningful dialogue among scholars, early-stage researchers, activists, and academicians from around the world.

The conference was inaugurated by Prof Thlic Milos Lichner SJ., the chief guest, who highlighted the dedication of St Xavier’s College in creating a forum for ethical research and global conversation. Prof Lichner emphasized the institution’s role in nurturing ethical principles and bridging Eastern and Western perspectives.

Keynote speaker Prof Dr Richard F Callahan from the University of San Francisco, USA, called for action that the significance of the conference lies not just in dialogue, but in ethical action-whether through teaching, research or by challenging the existing norms. “Curiosity is the foundation of ethical transformation. The more challenging the need, the more questions we ask and that is the starting of ethical transformation,” said Prof Callahan.

Father Dr Augustine Thomas SJ, Principal of St Xavier’s College, described the ICSXC-2024 as more than just a conference- “it is a movement.” He encouraged the attendees to explore how ethical knowledge can improve practices across diverse disciplines, including social sciences, technology, education, natural sciences, and the humanities.

Over two days, the conference will feature keynote addresses from leading experts, including Prof Dr Miwa Hirono from Japan’s Ritsumeikan University, Prof Dr Vini Sebastian of St Xavier’s Institute of Education, India, Prof Dr Rameshwor Adhikari from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, Prof Dr Shaswat Shresthamali from Kyushu University, Japan, and Dr Meghnath Dhimal of Nepal Health Research Council.

The conference will also include 50 research presentations across three halls, with participants from countries including Nepal, the USA, India, the Philippines, Slovakia, Japan, and South Africa. ICSXC-2024 is the second edition of the conference, following the successful inaugural event in 2022.
