Karnali Academy of Health Sciences holds its first convocation ceremony

KATHMANDU, Nov 14: The Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) conferred degrees to medical students for the first time on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, Nov 14: The Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) conferred degrees to medical students for the first time on Wednesday.


A total of 30 students attended the first convocation ceremony of Jumla-based institute, marking a significant milestone in providing local healthcare education in the country’s remote Karnali Province.


Rector Dabal Bahadur Dhami said that although a total of 58 students were eligible to attend the graduation ceremony, most of them could not attend due to their preparation for the Public Service Commission examinations, while others were engaged in personal commitments.

At the convocation ceremony, Prime Minister and Chancellor of the KAHS KP Sharma Oli conferred degrees on 30 students. The KAHS awarded degrees to five MDMS students, seven DMS students, and 18 BPH students during the convocation ceremony.


Five outstanding students were honored with the Chancellor's Gold Medal during the ceremony. The recipients were Renu Kumari Singh from BMS, Srijan Neupane and Dipendra Joshi of BPH along with Sushil Shahi and Bed Kumar Chaudhary of MDMS.


Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Oli said that the government is determined to provide quality education and healthcare services by enhancing the effectiveness of the KAHS.


 “The people of Karnali have started getting quality health facilities in their own place, and this is a matter of happiness,” Said PM Oli. PM Oli added that the government has already initiated the process of building a 100-bed hospital in Rakam, Karnali and the government is committed to add more services in the academy.


Urging the students to contribute to the country's health services, the prime minister said, “Your hard work and dedication have made today’s success possible. Now, turn this success into quality healthcare for the people.”


PM Oli further said that stakeholders should work responsibly to realize the dream of the people of all 13 districts of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces to receive quality health services. The convocation ceremony was attended by PM Oli, Health Minister Pradeep Poudel, vice-chairperson of the Medical Education Commission, Prof Dr Anjani Kumar Jha among others. Following the convocation ceremony, PM Oli also inaugurated the academic building of the KAHS.
