`Himalmedia attackers` released on bail

LALITPUR, Jan 1: Lalitpur District Administration Office on Thursday released Ram Babu Panta and Ramesh KC, the two main accused in the Himalmedia attack case, on bail of Rs 9,000 each after a hearing.


Earlier in the afternoon, the District Attorney Office Lalitpur filed a charge sheet against Maoist unionists Panta and KC at the District Administration Office.

The ´assailant´ duo had surrendered to the Lalitpur Administration Office on December 26.


Kunda Dixit, the editor of Nepali Times, had filed a case on December 25 against 40 persons , including Panta and KC, accusing them of carrying out the attack, at the district police office. The attack occurred on December 21 in which journalists and staff were beaten up and the offices vandalized.


According to the publishers, Maoist unionists affiliated to the All Nepal Hotel and Restaurant Workers´ Union (ANHRWU) were involved in the attack at  Himalmedia office injuring journalists and staffers.
