KATHMANDU, Dec 26: Teknath Rijal, Bhutanese refugee leader currently in jail in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, is set to be released on bail after the Patan High Court granted him bail.
Despite paying the required amount, he remains in custody at Jagannath Dewal Jail, Central Jail, and is expected to be released on Wednesday. Although the court had issued the bail order on December 1, Rijal remained in jail as he failed to pay the bail amount immediately.

Rijal, accused of being involved in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, submitted the bail amount to the Kathmandu District Court a month after the court order.
The Patan High Court had set his bail at Rs 1.5 million. It is reported that he submitted a bond of Rs 1.5 million at the Kathmandu District Court on Sunday. On the same day, he was taken to the Department of Money Laundering Investigation. Following that, he is expected to be taken to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and released.
Despite posting the bail, Rijal will remain in custody until Wednesday due to Monday and Tuesday being public holidays. He has been detained in the Central Jail since June 16, 2023.
