KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The Department of Passport (DoP) is going to use the software and biometrics system used by the Department of National ID and Civil Registration. Officials have said that if the software is used, the service-seekers will not have to give separate biometrics to the DoP.

On Monday, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Physical Infrastructure Minister Prakash Jwala and Foreign Minister NP Saud discussed this issue.

According to Foreign Minister Saud's press coordinator Keshav Sawad, this will facilitate the passport distribution service.

After the meeting, the concerned departments were instructed to use the software and biometrics used by the Department of National ID and Civil Registration, according to the Secretariat of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).

The service users have been taking photos and giving biometrics while making the national identity card. The MoFA has made this identity card mandatory for passports. At present, even if the service-seeker provides biometrics at the Department of National ID and Civil Registration, they are required to appear for the mandatory biometrics at the DoP for the passport.
