KATHMANDU, Nov 28: The silence period for the local level by-election will begin on Thursday at midnight.
The silence period begins 48 hours before the voting. During this time, candidates are not allowed to seek votes or engage in any form of campaigning activities.
According to the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission, candidates, as well as political parties, are prohibited from organizing events such as assemblies, conferences, seminars, gatherings, or interactions during this period.
Silence period for vice-presidential election begins tonight
By December 1, by-elections will be held for various vacant positions in 44 local levels across 37 districts.
By-elections will be held for a total of 44 vacant positions, including two district coordination committee chiefs, two chairs of rural municipalities, four vice-chairpersons, one municipal chief and one deputy chief, and 34 ward chairpersons.
Although elections are being held for 44 vacant positions, three positions have been elected unopposed. Tek Raj Bhattarai from the Nepali Congress Party has been elected unopposed as the Chief of Okhaldhunga District Coordination Committee, and Tika Kumari Chaudhary from the Nepali Congress Party has been elected unopposed as the Chief of Kailali District Coordination Committee.
Similarly, in Ward-2 of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality in Rukum East, Maoist Center candidate Jagat Gharti is the sole candidate for the position of Ward Chair.
A total of 162 polling stations and 293 centers have been designated for the by-election. There are 226,799 eligible voters for this by-election.
