Insurers settle Rs 789.30 million of Rs 12.26 billion in September disaster claims

Non-life insurers have settled only 6.43 percent of the insurance claims that they received against the damages caused by floods and landslides that took place on September 26-28.

KATHMANDU, Nov 29: Non-life insurers have settled only 6.43 percent of the insurance claims that they received against the damages caused by floods and landslides that took place on September 26-28.


According to Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), 14 non-life insurers and four micro insurance companies have recorded insurance claims of Rs 12.26 billion as of Wednesday. Of this amount, the insurers have settled only Rs 789.30 million.

The largest insurance claims of Rs 9.01 billion were registered for the damages to fixed property. Private vehicle owners have filed insurance claims of Rs 374.54 million and owners of public vehicles have sought a total insurance coverage of Rs 231.49 million from the insurers.


According to NIA officials, non-insurance companies have deployed surveyors for onsite assessment to ascertain the amount of the actual damages caused by the natural disasters.
