KATHMANDU, July 15: Contract, temporary and daily wage employees staged a protest inside the Singha Durbar premises on Wednesday against the government's plan to remove contract workers from public service.
The demonstration came a day after the employees protested outside the Ministry of Finance.

The workers took to the streets after the government prepared a policy proposal to remove around 60,000 contract, temporary and daily wage employees working under federal, provincial and local governments, including various ministries, commissions and public offices.
According to available figures, the federal government employs around 10,000 to 12,000 contract workers, while provincial governments employ about 6,000 and local governments around 35,000.
The protesters argued that dismissing employees who have served for years without offering an alternative would directly threaten their livelihoods. They urged the government to reconsider the policy and seek an appropriate solution, warning of stronger protests if they lose their jobs.
The government, however, says the proposed policy is aimed at controlling public expenditure and improving efficiency by prioritizing an outsourcing system.
