KATHMANDU, July 31: A newly constructed operation theatre building at Rapti Eye Hospital in Tulsipur, Dang, built with financial assistance from the Government of India, has been jointly inaugurated.
The facility was inaugurated by Gitanjali Brandon, Counsellor at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, and Tikaram Khadka, Mayor of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City.
The double-storey building was constructed under India’s High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) programme and is the seventh such project completed in Dang district.

Speaking at the event, the mayor, hospital management, and local stakeholders welcomed India’s development support, saying the new infrastructure would strengthen eye care services and improve access to treatment in the region.
According to the Indian Embassy, nearly 600 HICDPs have been implemented across all seven provinces of Nepal. Of these, 66 projects are located in Lumbini Province, including seven in Dang district.
India has also provided 169 ambulances and 59 school buses to health and education institutions in Lumbini Province. Dang district alone has received 19 ambulances and eight school buses, with Rapti Eye Hospital receiving an ambulance in January 2022.
The embassy said the project reflects India’s continued support for Nepal’s development efforts, particularly in strengthening infrastructure in priority sectors such as healthcare.
