KATHMANDU, Sept 29: Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Waglé has been elected Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for the 2026-27 term.
Dr Waglé, who is Nepal's Governor on the AIIB Board of Governors, was elected during the Governors’ Business Roundtable held in Doha on Monday, according to a press release issued by the Embassy of Nepal in Doha.

Dr Waglé attended the opening ceremony of the 11th Annual Meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors, which was attended by Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, the press release said.
On the sidelines of the annual meeting, Waglé held separate meetings with Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Bangladeshi Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
The meetings focused on strengthening bilateral economic ties, trade and investment, as well as promoting tourism and clean energy, alongside other matters of mutual interest, according to the release.
Dr Waglé also attended a Host Member Gala Dinner hosted by the Qatari government later in the evening, the release said.
