KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has urged the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to increase investment in Nepal’s infrastructure and productive sectors while making its financing more accessible to countries like Nepal.
Dr Wagle made the remarks during the AIIB’s 2026 Annual Meeting in Doha, Qatar, where he called for greater investment in roads, electricity, communications and information technology.

He also urged the bank to make its lending as favorable as possible to Nepal’s needs and help attract domestic and foreign private capital for productive investment.
The annual meeting, held on September 28 and 29 under the theme “Tomorrow’s Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation,” also provided an opportunity for Nepal to seek support for post-disaster reconstruction and expand cooperation with AIIB and its member countries.
According to the Finance Minister’s Secretariat, Dr Wagle held discussions with the AIIB president and finance ministers from Qatar, India, Bangladesh, Armenia and Georgia on economic cooperation, investment expansion and support for Nepal’s post-disaster reconstruction.
Dr Wagle returned to Kathmandu on Wednesday after leaving for Doha on September 26 to attend the annual meeting.
