SURKHET, Feb 18: CNN Hero of 2015 Maggie Doyne has contributed to the construction of a well-facilitated school in Birendranagar, the capital of Karnali Province.
The building was constructed by Kopila Valley Service Society (KVSS) with a total investment of Rs 125 million.

Kopila Valley School (KVS), Kopila Valley Child Center (KVCC) and Kopila Valley Women Service Center (KVWSC) will run under the same building.
Doyne contributed Rs 10 million awarded to her as the recipient of the CNN Hero award in 2105 for the building. Besides Doyne, an international non-governmental organization Blink Now Foundation and various other international donors also contributed for the construction of the building.
Top Bahadur Malla, chairperosn of the society, informed Republica that the building has been constructed in three years and is I the midst of a three-bigha land. Established in the year 2008, KVS runs classes up to 12th grade. The school has been providing free education to more than 450 students.
"We have constructed a well-facilitated building for the school making sure that poor, underprivileged, orphan and homeless children get quality education," said Chairperson Malla, adding, "The building is environment-friendly, quake resilient and has technologies operated by solar and bio-energy." The school will be cooking meals on solar energy.
On Sunday, Dal Rawal, minister for social development of Karnali Province inaugurated the school building. Speaking at the program, Rawal stressed on the need to establish more schools like KVS for imparting quality education to many students.
