KATHMANDU, Nov 23: CPN (Maoist Center) leader and former minister Padam Rai passed away on Saturday at Bir Hospital, Kathmandu, while undergoing treatment for Parkinson's disease. He was 57.
Originally from Boya, Shadananda Municipality, Bhojpur, Rai was a central committee member of the party. He had a dynamic political journey, having initially joined Mohan Baidya's faction following the split of the Unified CPN-Maoist. Rai later aligned with Netra Bikram Chand 'Biplav' but eventually returned to the Maoist Center.

Expressing his grief, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal shared his condolences on Facebook, stating: "The death of our party's central committee member and former minister Padam Rai, who was suffering from Parkinson's disease, is saddening. I pay my heartfelt tribute to him and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family."
