Security upped in Biratnagar: 27 protestors arrested

BIRATNAGAR, May 28: Police have arrested 27 people who protested against the naming of Koshi province from Biratnagar. The protestors including the president of Kirant Rai Yayokkha (a social organization of Rai people) Jeevan Hatesu Rai, Vice President Deewan Rai, and Bhim Rai were arrested.

BIRATNAGAR, May 28: Police have arrested 27 people who protested against the naming of Koshi province from Biratnagar. The protestors including the president of Kirant Rai Yayokkha (a social organization of Rai people) Jeevan Hatesu Rai, Vice President Deewan Rai, and Bhim Rai were arrested.


District Police Office Morang Spokesperson Ranjan Kumar Dahal informed Republica that the 27 protestors who breached prohibitory order were arrested. The budget session of the Koshi provincial assembly is starting from today.

After the beginning of the session of the provincial assembly, the Province 1 renaming joint struggle committee, which started protesting against the renaming of the province, announced the program of protest aimed at Biratnagar.


The local administration has issued curfew orders at various places in Biratnagar. After the name of the province was changed to Koshi on March 1, the session of the provincial assembly was postponed without starting.
