KATHMANDU, Nov 18: An American lady Maggie Doyne who has been working as a social worker in Nepal has been declared CNN Hero of the Year 2015.
Social worker Doyne, who featured in the top 10 finalists, has been declared wi nner through voting which also carries a purse of USD100, 000.
CNN Hero Doyne contributes in construction of school building
Doyne, permanent resident of New Jersey, USA, had taught underprivileged and helpless students by establishing a school Kopila in Surkhet in 2010 where over 250 students have been studying.
Beside school, Doyne has also opened up Kopila Valley Women Center and has been proving skilled-based trainings to women since 2013. Currently, Doyne along with her team has been constructing a well-equipped school building to run classes from Nursery to 12.
She expressed her emotional gratitude to the entire Nepali people for accepting her as the daughter of Nepal after having become the CNN Hero 2015.
“If someone had told me that I would become the mother of 50 children at the age of 18, I would call him/her crazy. But now I have become the same. I love my children from the bottom of my heart. Keep in mind that my love toward you will never wither,” Doyne said, adding “I would like to thank Nepal as she has welcomed me as her own daughter.
