JUMLA: August 22: Security personnel have destroyed cannabis grown in an area around Khalanga, the district headquarters of Jumla. A joint team of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army destroyed the marijuana that grew naturally there.


According to the District Police Office, Jumla, cannabis was destroyed at places nearby Chandannath Temple such as Sela Jiulo, Bus Park, Bhartibada, Hospital Line and Jugadkhola. Chief District Officer Bijayakumari Prasai herself had gone to destroy the cannabis. Locals along with security personnel also helped to tear down the marijuana plants.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dan Bahadur Thapa informed Republica that all the possible cannabis has been destroyed as the local youths had started smoking it. Since there was a rise in the use of marijuana, various criminal activities also increased. “Marijuana is not cultivated, however, it grows naturally in Jumla. Due to its consumption, various criminal activities have increased significantly. Thus, we will now destroy these plants,” he said. According to the District Police Office, Jumla, the police personnel have been instructed to destroy cannabis.


“On Saturday, we destroyed the marijuana that had grown in an area of ​​3 bighas. We are also searching for the places that are suitable for marijuana to grow,” said DSP Dan Bahadur Thapa.


It is found that traders sell processed cannabis in India for 11,000 Indian Rupees per kilo.
