SURKHET, May 14: It has become very much unlikely for Karnali Province to successfully implement the budget for the current fiscal year 2017/18. The provincial government has yet to form divisions for the implementation of the budget with the FY about to end. The budget, which was approved by the federal parliament on April 28, was released to the provincial government on May 6.
SURKHET, May 10: Six years ago, a few Christians from Anugraha Church at Birendranagar Municipality-1 reached the District Prison Surkhet to extend their helping hands . Though they had gone there for providing some food to the prisoners, they have since used the prison as a center for promoting Christianity. They have been successful in doing so and have added hundreds of followers.
SURKHET, April 25: The government of Karnali Province on Monday unveiled its plans and policies prioritizing tourism, infrastructure, herbs and hydropower sectors. Presenting it in the parliament, Governor of the province Durga Keshar Khanal stated that rapid development of the region is possible by focusing on the prioritized sectors.
SURKHET, April 23: It has been more than two months since a seven-member cabinet was formed in Karnali province. Six members of the cabinet including the chief minister stay at government provided residence but one of the ministers is still living in a hotel.
SURKHET, April 19: Bandana Khadka of Birendranagar-3 recently admitted her two sons to one of the oldest community schools of the district. She took an unusual decision to switch their school from a boarding school to a community school.
SURKHET, Mar 28: Three people including a policeman were taken into custody Wednesday for alleged involvement in the rape and murder of an 18 year-old student appearing in the Secondary Education Examinations (SEE) from Panchpuri Municipality, Surket.
SURKHET, March 26: As the officials of various ministries of the provincial government seemed too busy using Facebook instead of development works, Karnali Province has announced to ban Facebook during the working hours from Tuesday onward.
SURKHET, March 11: The ravaging flood of August 14, 2014 in the Bheri River killed 29 persons and rendered 120 households of Tatapani homeless. A large number of the displaced families started living in the nearby Galfa forest.
SURKHET, March 10: Four years ago, massive floods from Bheri River had completely washed away all the family members of Sarjan Tamatta, a local of Panchapuri Municipality-10 in Surkhet district. At that time, he was in India working as a daily-wage laborer, and became the sole surviving member of the family.
SURKHET, March 9: Eight years ago, 72 years old Kalu Giri moved to Beureni of Pokharidanda after being displaced from Simali of Lagaam. He has a single-storey wooden house built in four Katthas of land provided by the then seven political parties. He has been sharing this house with 17 other members of his family. Four of his sons have gone to Kalapahad (India) for employment.
SURKHET, Feb 24: Province 6 has been named as Karnali and the capital has been fixed in Birendranagar of Surkhet. The assembly meeting of the province has decided the name and the capital of the province on Saturday.
