51 new cases of COVID-19 detected in one Rural Municipality of Jumla

SURKHET, Aug 21: As many as 51 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were detected in Hima Rural Municipality of Jumla district.

The test result received from Karnali Academy of Health Science on Thursday confirmed 51 positive cases of the total 96 swab samples tested for COVID-19.

According to the Registrar at the Academy Bishwaraj Kafle, Jumla has witnessed a high level of community transmission of COVID-19 for the first time. “In the past two days alone, 59 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in a single municipality,” he added.

The local administration is conducting contact tracing in the affected areas to curb further spread of the COVID-19 in the district

Jumla district has capacity of treating 160 COVID-19 patients in isolation centers. Lack of isolation beds is likely in the near future.

Raj Bahadur Shahi, Chairperson of Hima Rural Municipality, said people’s representatives, government employees, security personnel and businessmen have contracted with the virus so far.

Five are security personnel, eight government employees, five businesspersons, ward chairpersons and elected representatives are among 51 people tested positive for the COVID-19 on Thursday.
