SURKHET, April 27: Dinesh Rawal, a resident of Sidhhakumakh Rural Municipality in Salyan district runs an agriculture farm in Panchapuri Municipality-9, Bijuma in the western part of Surkhet. A 10+2 graduate, Rawal has taken 40 ropanis of land on lease for vegetable farming. Eighteen local people have been employed at the farm where green vegetables including tomatoes, green chilis, pumpkins, cabbage, and cucumbers are ready to be picked and supplied to the market.

SURKHET, March 25: Local authorities have rescued altogether 100 Nepali nationals including three minors who were stranded at Rupaidiha and Gaddachauki areas along the Nepal-India border after the government imposed a nation-wide lockdown from Tuesday.
SURKHET, Feb 22: The National Pride Project, Bheri-Babai Diversion Multipurpose Project has completed 40% of the construction work. The construction project was started from 2004 to divert the water of Bheri River to Babai and provide irrigation facility to 52,000 hectares of land of Banke and Bardiya districts and also produce 48-megawatt electricity. The construction of the 12.2 kilometers long tunnel was constructed with the use of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for the first time in Nepal. Under the second package of the project, the dam and powerhouse will be constructed.
SURKHET, Feb 22: Kabi Ram Nepali, a resident of Mohanyal Rural Municipality-3 of Kailali district, is a high school student. While going to his school, Nepali has to cross the Karnali River risking his life. As there is no bridge over the river, students like Nepali have been risking their lives to go to the school regularly. They have been crossing the Karnali River with the help of a wooden boat.
SURKHET, Feb 20: Nepal Rastriya Primary School in western Surkhet that once had around 10 bighas of land of its own is now shrunk to a small plot. While there is not enough space left even for students to play, the earlier open area is now fully occupied by infrastructures, vegetable and crop farms. In 2006, some locals had decided to give the public land they had been using to the school located at Chyurikhet at Panchapuri Municipality–2, making it one of the spacious schools in the district. According to the school's Principal Dil Bahadur Gharti, the school is now struggling to recover the land.
SURKHET, Jan 24: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday caught the chairperson of Junichande rural municipality in Jajarkot district Krishna Bahadur KC red-handed with Rs 800,000 bribe money.
