Break taboos to reinstate rape victims
Ten of the rape victims are under 16, according to Police Inspector at the District Police Office, Gorkha, Dharma Adhikari. Those girls are between 6 and 15 years of age. Similarly, a 17-year-old girl and four other women were also victimized in three other rape incidents.
Although most victims are minor girls, the perpetrators are grown up males. Most of the accused are grown up men belonging to the 18 to 40 years age group, while only a boy aged 16 had committed the crime. “Most of the perpetrators, who are well aware and mature, were found to have cajoled the girls and committed the crime,” Adhikari said.
In one instance, a 68-year-old man was arrested on the charge of raping a 12-year-old girl.
Inspector Adhikari said four to six rape cases on average are reported in the district in a month. “This shows that the rape cases are on the rise,” he said.
