Over 500 traffic police to be deployed at various checkpoints
KATHMANDU, March 12: Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office (KVTPO) will begin checking routes early in the morning on Thursday to reduce the possibility of accidents on the occasion of the Holi celebration.

Starting from 7 am, traffic checkpoints will be set up at 75 different locations within the Kathmandu Valley. At these checkpoints, vehicle documents will be checked and tests for alcohol consumption and violations such as overspeeding will be conducted, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak Giri at the KVTPO.
The traffic police will hold vehicles that violate the traffic rules throughout the day. Vehicles that violate traffic laws will be impounded for overspeeding, carrying passengers beyond the limit, or riding without a helmet.
Vehicles held throughout the day will be handed over only in the evening after paying the fine and fee. Tomorrow, traffic police will be mobilized in all three districts under the leadership of SP Giri.
Over 500 traffic police will be deployed at check points on Thursday. Similarly, a team will be mobilized in a mobile van to check for the consumption of similar intoxicating substances while driving. The team will also conduct a breathalyzer test on the driver if there is any suspicion.
