GORKHA, Feb 9: Three incidents of rape and attempted rape have been reported in five days in Gorkha. Between February 2 and February 7, a total of three such incidents were reported to the police station.
Raman Mukhiya, a resident of Rautahat who has been living in Sahid Lakhan Rural Municipality-8, Gorkha is being investigated on the charge of attempting to rape a 26-year-old girl on February 2. According to Superintendent of Police Surendra Gurung, the police are investigating the case after the family lodged the First Information Report (FIR) against the perpetrator.
A four-year-old girl studying in grade one was raped in her school in Gorkha. Police have taken a 13-year-old boy of the same school into custody on the charge of raping the girl in the school’s toilet. The incident is being investigated after the girl’s family lodged a FIR on February 4, police said.
Gorkha emerging as new smuggling route
Similarly, a 25-year-old man from Sahid lakhan Rural Municipality-7 has been arrested on charge of attempting to rape a 14-year-old girl on February 6. The family of the victim has said that the perpetrator tried to rape the girl while no one was at home. “We are conducting an investigation,” SP Gurung told Republica.
Police have also registered a case against a 30-year-old man for raping a 22-year-old girl in Gorkha Municipality-6 on January 21. According to the police, the person involved in the incident has absconded and the search is underway.
There have been four incidents of rape and attempted rape in Gorkha in a month. “There has been an increase in the number of such cases being exposed,” SP Gurung who is also the chief of District Police Office, Gorkha said. “Such incidents took place in the past as well but they were not reported and most of them were settled in the village.”
“We will impartially investigate the incidents that have come to our notice and will ensure justice to the victims,” he further added.
