The section 307 of the Criminal Code of Nepal 2074 BS stipulates that a person who commits, or causes to be committed, libel shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or a fine not exceeding 20,000, or both.
The Muluki Criminal Code Act also provides for an additional imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of up to Rs 10,000 if someone insults or causes someone to be insulted through electronic or other mass media.
General Secretary Rai had claimed that Thapa had embezzled Rs 170 million from ANFA while he was the president and later deposited Rs 80 million into ANFA's account after a money laundering investigation.
Claiming that the allegations are baseless, he said that Rai has assassinated his character. Thapa had previously filed a complaint against Rai at the Cyber Bureau in Bhotahiti.
