Prasai, known for his controversial involvement in medical business, has taken large sums in loans to run his enterprises. He has frequently drawn criticism for failing to repay bank loans.

Following a preliminary investigation, the NRB handed over the case to CIB for further action. Prasai is currently in custody at the Kathmandu District Police Office after being arrested in connection with the violent protests that broke out in Tinkune on March 28.
