TANAHUN, April 22: The Marsyangdi Hydropower Center distributed compensation to 19 families affected by its project in Ward No. 4 of Aabu Khaireni Rural Municipality. The center acquired nine ropanis, ten annas, two paisa, and three dams of land, including plots from 14 families and five houses, before providing the compensation.
Chief Engineer Pashupati Gautam stated that the center allocated a total of Rs 217.89 million for land acquisition. Of this amount, it distributed Rs 178.79 million for land and Rs 39.9 million for houses and sheds.
Two changes in compensation worries affected families
The Compensation Determination Committee, chaired by the Chief District Officer, set the land compensation rate at Rs 18.49 million per ropani.
After their area was submerged, residents of Eaklephant in Ward No. 2 of Aabu Khaireni Rural Municipality staged protests demanding compensation. Now that they have received it, the affected residents have expressed their happiness.
Center Chief Gautam stated that the center has completed the compensation process for permanently acquiring land from locals along the dam site. The 69-megawatt project acquired the land after the dam caused flooding and erosion in the nearby settlement.
Fearing possible human casualties, local residents had repeatedly demanded relocation to a safer place with proper compensation. Aabu Khaireni Rural Municipality Chairperson Shukra Chuman said the affected residents are now happy, even though they had to struggle and wait for a long time to receive the compensation.
