UDAYAPUR, April 21: Panchamaya Tamang, 46, a resident of Katari Municipality in Udayapur, sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a bear in the Narayani Community Forest on Monday morning.
According to Hiralal Sharma, a forest officer at the Division Forest Office, Katari, Tamang had gone to the forest in Katari-2, Garas, to collect grass when she was suddenly attacked by the bear. Quoting the injured woman, Sharma said she managed to scare the bear after sustaining some injuries.
Two injured in bear attack

Tamang sustained injuries on her thighs, arms, and legs. The incident occurred at around 8:40 am, according to police. She was accompanied by two friends to the forest, but the bear attacked when she was alone.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kamal Bajgain at the Katari Area Police Office said Tamang suffered a deep wound on her right thigh. She was rescued with the help of the local Garas police post and is currently receiving treatment at Katari Municipal Hospital. Her condition is improving and she is expected to be discharged soon.
The attack has left local residents fearful. While bears have been spotted in the area before, this is the first reported attack on a human. Authorities, in coordination with local representatives, plan to launch a public awareness campaign, urging residents to avoid going into the forest alone, especially at night and early morning hours.
