Oppns to urge prez for more time

KATHMANDU, Nov 28: The two major opposition parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, on Wednesday decided to request the president for extension of the deadline for the parties to pick consensus prime minister.



A joint meeting of the parties held at UML head office in Balkhu decided to urge the president for more time as political parties are still in negotiations for a unanimous PM candidate with only one day now remaining before the time-frame slips by. [break]



Meanwhile, the UML´s two-day politburo meeting held in Balkhu decided to make active the party´s talks team headed by Madhav Kumar Nepal to explore ways to consensus on the leadership of the next government.



The meeting also appreciated the president for his move and criticized the Maoist-led government for its negative response to the president´s ´mandatory´ step. The meeting further accused the ruling the Maoist party of harboring a motive to seize state powers by prolonging its stay in government.



The meeting also decided to call the party´s central committee meeting for December 10-13 to discuss issues surrounding the amendment to the statute of the party.
