KATHMANDU, Jan 16: A total of 172,877 people have applied to serve as ‘temporary police’ for the upcoming March 5 House of Representatives elections, according to the Nepal Police.
DIG Abi Narayan Kafle, Central Police Spokesperson, said that the Nepal Police is seeking only 133,980 temporary police nationwide. He added that the number of applicants fell short in 36 districts, and in such districts, the police have extended the application period by two more days.

Applications for temporary police opened on January 8. Meanwhile, the Armed Police Force is also recruiting separately to support election security.
Preference in the selection process will be given to former security personnel, ex-forest guards, and those who have passed physical fitness and health tests in previous recruitment drives.
Additionally, individuals who have previously served as temporary election police or Nepali citizens with experience in foreign security agencies will also be prioritised.
