KATHMANDU, Jan 16: The Nepal Bar Association (NBA) has criticised the government’s decision to withdraw a case involving organised crime and money laundering against Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane, calling it inappropriate and damaging to the rule of law.

In a press statement on Friday, NBA General Secretary Kedar Prasad Koirala said the move “promotes impunity through the politicisation of offences and the criminalisation of politics,” undermining the principles of criminal justice. The NBA demanded the government immediately revoke its decision and ensure the impartial application of the law.

Koirala added that the withdrawal contradicts existing legal provisions, sets a negative precedent, and risks eroding judicial independence. He warned that such selective decisions could jeopardise the criminal justice system and concentrate excessive power in the executive.
