Throughout the special day, the Palais des Nations, the UN building in Geneva, was open for public and a varieties of activities were offered to the visiting public that included exhibitions, cultural performances and information about countries around the world.[break]
The event was organized under the patronage of the UNOG Director-General, Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Support and cooperation was provided by the Swiss Government, the Geneva Canton, the City of Geneva and the Geneva Foundation.
Deeming the UN Open Day as an important opportunity to inform the visitors about Nepal and its attractions, the Permanent Mission had set up an exhibition stand, which drew huge attraction among the visitors. Nepal was among a dozen countries that had established exhibition booths.
Flyers, brochures, posters and other tourism promotion materials were on display. Visitors from Geneva and other parts of Europe, who came in high number, received the informative materials with great interest.
This is the first time Nepal participated in the Open Day event.
