KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Nepal has defeated Zimbabwe by six wickets in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
This is the first win of Nepali team in the third match of Group B. In the previous two matches, Nepal lost to the team of Thailand and Netherlands, respectively. Nepal will be contesting with Scotland in the final of the group round.
Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe by 7 wickets in 2nd ODI
In Saturday's match, Nepali team captain Indu Verma won the toss and chose to field first. Zimbabwe scored 129 runs for a loss of six wickets. In response, Nepal met the target in 19.3 overs for a loss of four wickets.
Puja Mahato contributed half a century for Nepal. Playing 50 balls, Mahato hit four 4s and two 6s and stood not out. Likewise, Indu Verma scored 22 runs and Bindu Rawal hit 15 runs.
Zimbabwe’s innings saw Kelis Ndlovu make the top score with 52 off 36 balls, while Beloved Biza contributed 34 runs in a competitive total. Riya Sharma and Kabita Kunwar were among the more successful bowlers for Nepal, each claiming important wickets.
The Saturday win maintains Nepal’s chance to enter super six. Out of the 10 nations participating in the qualifying matches, top four teams will secure their positions to contest in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in England and Wales.
