KATHMANDU, July 21: Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) has fined Rs 50,000 to Koteshwar based CCRC College for violating the HSEB code of conduct regarding advertising.

According to Suprabhat Bhandari, chairman of the Guardian Association of Nepal, the college was found using pictures of college toppers to attract students for grade 11.

The college could not give satisfactory explanation to the HSEB for violating the advertisement norm, nor did it apologize for the act, said Bhandari who is also the member of the monitoring committee.

Earlier in first week of this month, 17 plus two colleges found violating admission norms and using prohibited means for advertisements had replied to the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) that they would follow the board´s directives.

Monitoring the Valley-based higher secondary schools and plus two colleges on June 25, the HSEB had sought clarifications from 29 institutions for violating the Board´s directive against using hoarding boards to attract students.

However, the college authorities had expressed commitment to pull down the hoarding boards and also archive the answer sheets of the entrance exams as per the initial direction of the Board. The HSEB has already restricted Barsha College and Cosmpolitan College from admitting new students at plus two levels.
