KATHMANDU, Jan 16: The 27th National Earthquake Safety Day is being observed across the country today.
The day has been marked annually since 1999 in commemoration of the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal on January 16, 1934.

The observance aims to raise public awareness about earthquake risks and to strengthen preparedness and safety measures.
Nepal has suffered repeated devastation from major earthquakes, most recently the April 25, 2015 quake, which caused widespread loss of life and extensive damage to property and infrastructure.
