“Announcing budget is the government´s rights. Hence, the government will come up with a full-fledged budget, whether opposition agrees or not,” said Pun. [break]
Speaking at a function, Pun said the government is still trying to forge consensus with the opposition parties, including the Nepali Congress and the CPN UML. “Our attempt, obviously, is to come up with budget through consensus. Now if the (opposition) parties do not respond to our call, we will have no option but to move unilaterally,” he stated.
Stating that the country cannot function without budget, Pun said responsible government simply cannot leave the country in a lurch.
Pun also termed the recent consultations of the opposition leaders on budget with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav as efforts to unnecessarily drag him into controversy.
“Instead of inciting unwanted action from the president, I request the opposition leaders to come to the talks table and express their concerns,” said Pun, adding that the government was ready for accommodating their views in the budget for new fiscal year 2012/13.
