KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Theater Pragya is taking a solo act to Mumbai. Aasutosh Sapkota will be performing as Sandeep in 'Ek Pana Sahar' at the Mumbai International Children's Festival of Performing Arts.

'Ek Pana Sahar' is conceptualized, designed and directed by Tanka Chaulagain. The play is 50 minutes long. The story focuses on a single child in Kathmandu. Sandeep is adept at getting what he wants from his parents. Each day he has a new demand and his parents cannot refuse him. The audience is introduced to the character when he is a class five student. He falls into bad company from a young age and then spirals out of control as he grows older. When he reaches high school, he finds himself friendless and scared of going home, he is forced to live on the streets. At the end of the play, he is hungry and full of repentance.

The play uses gestures and body language to convey the message rather than have long conversations. It has also utilized animals such as dogs, cats, crows, snakes, and tigers to indicate the time lapse in the story. Similarly, the use of the character's school tie also shows his growing years.

According to the press release, Chaulagain stated that he wrote the story after coming across many young people in Kathmandu who are caught up in substance abuse.

Mumbai International Children's Festival will begin on January 7 and will end on January 10. Theater Pragya will stage the play on the afternoon of the opening day. More than 10 countries including Latvia, Thailand, Germany, Iran, and Bangladesh are participating in the

festival.

'Ek Pana Sahar' has earlier been staged at the Colombo International Theater Festival and Theater Olympiad.
