JANAKPUR, Jan 19: Senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Balendra Shah (Balen), has called for an end to the burden on citizens who are forced to travel to Kathmandu for administrative work.
Addressing the “Parivartan Udghosh Sabha” (Change Declaration Gathering) a March 5 House of Representative (HoR) election related political program in Janakpur on Monday, Balen expressed frustration that even after the introduction of federalism, power remains overly centralized.

He began his speech in Maithili, highlighting his personal connection with the Madhes region.
Balen said that Madheshi people are required to visit Kathmandu even for petty administrative works. “You should be visiting Kathmandu to pay homage to lord Pashupatinath and to travel but not to handle routine administrative matters,” Balen said.
Recalling his tenure as Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, he said he often felt helpless when Madhesi sugarcane farmers and microfinance victims traveled to the capital seeking justice, but jurisdictional limits prevented him from addressing their grievances.
