KATHMANDU, Jan 19: The Nepali Army’s No. 6 Brigade has awarded a special letter of commendation to Major Richa Singh for her professionalism, discipline and sound judgment in handling sensitive and challenging situations during the Gen Z movement.
Major Singh, who was responsible for the Bensi Outpost and prison security in Dhading district, played a key role in maintaining order through effective crowd control, protection of public infrastructure and close coordination with the civil administration. Her timely intervention in preventing a possible jailbreak during the unrest was particularly noted and highly commended.

According to the letter of appreciation issued by the No. 6 Brigade, Major Singh demonstrated discipline in dynamic and sensitive situations, along with proportionate response, swift decision-making and strong command presence—qualities described as exemplary of the Nepali Army’s core values and professional ethics.
The letter further states that her leadership, coordination, vigilance and humane approach as Company Commander of Bhairabh Battalion not only enhanced the battalion’s reputation but also elevated the standing of the entire 6th Brigade.
Senior army officials attended the commendation ceremony. Presenting the certificate, Brigade Commander Brigadier General Subas Jung Thapa said Major Singh’s conduct reaffirmed the Nepali Army’s professional competence, restraint and commitment to democratic values.
Major Singh’s approach to deal with such a tense situation through prudence, dialogue and strategic leadership—rather than force—has been widely seen as sustainable means of maintaining order. Her role is also being viewed as an inspiring example of effective female leadership within the Nepali Army.
