Doc thrashed at Bharatpur hospital over patient's death, again

CHITWAN, July 15: The superintendent of Bharatpur Hospital, Dr Mahendra Raj Neupane has been thrashed by the relatives of a patient who died during the course of treatment at the hospital, Sunday.



Ram Hari Samari, 54, died Saturday night while he was undergoing treatment for tuberculosis and asthma at the hospital. Samari was kept on ventilator. He died after Dr Neupane removed the oxygen, saying the hospital was running short of it.[break]



The deceased’s relatives beat up the doctor blaming him for the death. Chitwan police have detained Samari´s son Krishna Hari in connection with the incident.



Meanwhile, the relatives of Samari have staged a protest and chanted slogans against the hospital management. All the services, except emergency service, are going to be closed for today, the hospital said.



A meeting of the doctors is being held at the hospital to discuss security measures at a time when there have been repeated attacks on the doctors, informed Dr Bhola Rauniyar.

 

This is a third such incident that has occurred in Chitwan in the past few days.
