KATHMANDU, Feb 6: Nepali Congress (NC) has ruled out forming any electoral alliances ahead of the upcoming March 5 House of Representatives (HoR) election, stating that the party will contest independently in all constituencies.

Speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters in Sanepa, party spokesperson Devaraj Chalise said the decision had already been made public by the party leadership, and there should be no confusion regarding possible partnerships.

“There will be no alliances before the election. All constituencies already have Congress candidates, and we are campaigning vigorously,” Chalise said. “The party president has publicly confirmed this, and I urge everyone not to be misled by speculation.”

According to the party, NC is the only national political party to have fielded its own candidates in all 165 HoR constituencies. Chalise said this strategy reflects confidence in the party’s organisational strength and grassroots presence across the country.

The party also cautioned voters against newly formed parties and leaders who, he claimed, were using appealing but misleading rhetoric to influence the electorate ahead of the polls. He urged citizens to evaluate political commitments carefully and make informed decisions.

On internal matters, the spokesperson said that earlier disputes within the party had been resolved, and the organisation was entering the election united. He added that the new Central Working Committee, led by President Gagan Thapa and formed during the special general convention held from January 11 to 14, had strengthened party unity and revitalised local structures.

Following the leadership change, the party has claimed that previously inactive members had become active again, and some individuals who had joined other parties were also returning to NC.

The party also expressed concern over reports that children were being involved in election-related activities by some political actors. Chalise called on the Election Commission to monitor the situation and take appropriate action if violations were found.

He further criticised rival parties and leaders for using hateful or abusive language on social media and public platforms, saying such behaviour undermines a healthy democratic environment.

“NC remains vigilant and committed to ensuring that elections are conducted in a fair, respectful and democratic manner,” Chalise said.
